Mijn man
houdt van een traditonele kerstboom met alleen maar zilveren versiering. Ik kan
er een klein beetje rood in smokkelen, maar dan houdt het wel op. Maar wat doe
ik dan met al die leuke zelfgemaakte, leuke of gekke kerstversieringen? Dan
maken we daar een stoffen kerstboom voor! Dit patroon komt oorspronkelijk uit
een Duits patchworkblad, ik heb alleen m’n eigen maten (10x10 cm!) aangehouden
voor de blokken omdat ik een wandvullende quilt wilde waar zoveel mogelijk
versiering op kon. Elk jaar komt er wat bij. Na 11 jaar is de quilt al
behoorlijk vol en moet ik gaan nadenken over vervanging van enkele oude
versieringen. Elk jaar hangt de quilt zo’n 2 maanden in de huiskamer, daarna
rol ik ‘m op en gaat-ie naar zolder. Als ik ‘m na 10 maanden weer uitrol, ben
ik altijd blij verrast over alles wat er op hangt.
My husband
loves a traditional christmas tree with only silver decorations. I can smuggle
in a little red, but that’s it. But what to do with all those homemade,
beautiful or funny christmas decorations? Well, I made a patchwork christmas
tree for them. The pattern is originally from a German patchwork magazine, but
I used my own sizes (10x10 cm!) for the blocks to get a wallsize quilt on which
as many decorations as possible could hang. Every year I added a few more things.
After 11 years the quilt is quite full and I need to think about replacing some
of the old stuff. Each year the quilt hangs for 2 months in our livingroom and
then I roll it up and put it in the attic. I’m always happily surprised when I
unroll it again after 10 months.

patchwork klok gemaakt door een quiltvriendin. Het is maar een kleine selectie
van alles wat er aan herinneringen in mijn kerstboom hangt.
On this

christmas museum in Germany (because why would angels always be white?); in the

clock made by a quilt friend. It’s just a small selection of all the great
memories in my own christmas tree.
