109. Naaimachine / Sewing Machine

Is het geen schatje, dit naaimachine doosje van Jim Shore? Ik kreeg ‘t van m’n man voordat hij 2 weken afreisde naar Afghanistan. Inmiddels is hij gelukkig weer veilig thuisgekomen.

Isn’t it cute, this sewing machine box by Jim Shore? My husband gave it to me before he travelled to Afghanistan for 2 weeks. Meanwhile I’m happy he returned safely back home. 

11. Oude naaimachines / Old Sewing Machines
Voor degenen die helemaal weg zijn van de Singer Featherweight en andere oude naaimachines, in Parijs is een kledingwinkel (in de Rue Etienne Marcel, op de grens tussen het 1e en 2e arrondissement) waar de etalages helemaal vol staan met dit soort naaimachines. Op de foto krijg je een indruk hoewel het door de spiegeling wat moeilijk te zien is. Sorry! Van binnenuit viel niets te fotograferen omdat er kledingrekken voor stonden. Zes planken oude naaimachines boven elkaar, en zo zagen alle ramen van het hoekpand eruit! Je vraagt je bijna af of er nog wel een oudje ergens te koop is als je deze verzameling ziet! Deze waren overigens niet te koop.
In Kopenhagen schijnt trouwens ook zo'n etalage te zijn.
I know some people just love these old Singer Featherweight and similar sewing machines. In Paris I found a fashion store (in the Rue Etienne Marcel, 1^st and 2^nd District) that had a lot of them in the windows! Although the picture is not good, I hope you get an impression. From the inside I couldn’t take any pictures because the view was blocked by clothes. Imagine, 6 rows of these machines per window, and all other windows of this corner building looked the same! One wonders if there is any old one left for sale somewhere when you see this collection. By the way, these were not for sale.
