Vanmiddag in het zonnetje heb ik de laatste steekjes gedaan
aan de Spakenburg quilt. De quilt meet ruim 100 x 100 cm en is voornamelijk met
de hand gepatcht en gequilt. Ik ben er een jaar mee bezig geweest, naast het
maken van allerlei andere dingen die jullie op m’n blog voorbij hebben zien
komen. Er zitten 68 verschillende paarse stofjes in, waarvan 64 rouwstoffen uit
Spakenburg. Het middenstuk is met kartonnetjes aan elkaar genaaid; de log
cabinrand is op de naaimachine in elkaar gezet. De wit/oranje stof komt ook uit
Spakenburg en is ook voor de achterkant gebruikt. Het was een heerlijke quilt
om aan te werken, maar het is ook heerlijk dat-ie af is!
This afternoon while sitting in the sunshine I’ve finished
this Spakenburg quilt. The size is 100 x 100 cm (40”x40”) and the patching and
quilting is mostly done by hand. I’ve been working on this quilt for a year,
besides making a lot of other stuff that you’ve seen on my blog. The quilt
includes 68 different purple fabrics, of which 64 are mourning fabrics from
traditional costumes from the Dutch town of Spakenburg. The center part is done
with English paper piecing; the log cabinborder is put together on the sewing
machine. The white/orange fabric is also from Spakenburg and is also used for
the backside. It was great working on this quilt, but it’s also great to have
it finished!
