42. Patchwork uit India / Patchwork from India

Dit patchwork kleedje komt uit India. De felle kleuren zijn verfraaid met kleine spiegeltjes en kraaltjes. Het kleedje heeft geen vulling en is niet gequilt. Het is een prachtig wandkleed.

This patchwork wallhanging comes from India. The bright colors are embellished with tiny mirrors and beads. It doesn’t have a batting and isn’t quilted. It’s a beautiful wallhanging.

37. Patchwork uit Afghanistan / Patchwork From Afghanistan

In de tijd dat mijn man regelmatig in Afghanistan werkte, kwam hij een keer deze koe tegen. Het patchwork kleedje hield insecten tegen en beschermde de koe tegen de felle zon. Het bewijst maar weer dat elk stukje stof opnieuw gebruikt kan worden, en dat is toch de basis van patchwork?

In the years that my husband worked in Afghanistan regularly, he once saw this cow. The patchwork cover kept away the insects and was also used to protect the cow from the hot sun. It proofs that every piece of fabric can be re-used again, and isn’t that the basis of patchwork?

27. Lapjesdeken / Patchwork Bed Cover

Groot was onze verrassing toen we in het zuiden van Azerbeidzjan in een nieuw gebouwd hotel terecht kwamen waar men de oude tradities in ere wilde houden. En dat deed men o.a. met zo’n kleurrijke lapjesdeken op het bed, gemaakt van lokaal verkrijgbaar katoen voor sjaals, jurken en schorten. Op het platteland heeft men geen tijd om mooie patronen te maken, maar een simpel patroon kan ook heel vrolijk zijn. 

We had a nice surprise when we stayed in a hotel in the southern part of Azerbaijan. It was a newly built hotel, yet they honored old traditions. One of these old traditions was a colorful patchwork bed cover, made of locally available cottons used for shawls, dresses and aprons. In the country side women have no time to make nice patterns, but a simple pattern can also be very cheerful.

17. Patchwork op straat / Patchwork In The Street
In Delft stond deze stoel op straat, voor de winkel van een meubelstoffeerder. Wat een prachtige stoel om lekker in te quilten, of te lezen, of te dagdromen, of gewoon te zitten!
In the Dutch city of Delft I saw this chair on the pavement, in front of an upholsterer‘s shop. What a great chair to quilt in, or to read, or daydrearm, or just to sit in!
